Slap Shot

 

                                    A usual and sometimes unexpected movie nights I have with my dad, where he usually just tells me to pick out something to watch and times it becomes random, but I truly believe Slap Shot was a right choice to watch with my father even though this is a film that he's never seen even though it's a movie starring Paul Newman. Slap Shot is a classic Hockey movie where you can throw a rock in every in every part of North America and every NHL player or NHL Network expresses their love of this movie. As for me I kind of found this movie by accident mainly working on a failed attempt of ranking the best Hockey movies, and suddenly Slap Shot came along and it's up there with some of the few best Hockey films I've seen. 

                                    In a small New England (maybe Pittsburgh, or Philly) town of Charlestown, the local mill is about to lay off 10,000 workers. The town's minor league hockey team, the Charlestown Chiefs, is doing no better. After years of failure, this will be the team's last season. Exasperated player and coach Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman) lets the club's recent acquisitions, the Hanson Brothers, play. The brothers' activity violent and thuggish style of play excites the fans. Dunlop retools the team, using violence to draw big crowds.

                                    I think when I first watched Slap Shot for the very first time, I viewed this as the Semi-Pro movie before Will Ferrell made Semi-Pro, with a lot of vulgar language as well as lessons that never learned well, let's be honest I don't believe there really was a lesson to be learned especially when it comes to character development. The development of the screenplay is both interesting moreover awesome because this vulgar language/never can be made again screenplay was written by a woman so to all those a**holes who don't have a sense of humor, when you thought women can't write those kinds of movies well jokes on you lame a**es. The movie no joke, is written by an actual female screenwriter named Nancy Dowd who based the scrip primarily on her brother Ned Dowd whose an actual real life Hockey player who also makes a cameo in the final act of the film, but back to bases the movie was based on Nancy's brother's experiences playing minor-league hockey in the U.S. during the 70's decade. At that time, violence, especially in low minors of Hockey, was a selling point of the game. Nancy Dowd who was living in LA, got a call from her brother, who was a member of a minor league team called the Johnstown Jets. Told her the bad news that the team was for sale, and so as most writers have that flash bulb of ideas decided to write the movie Slap Shot about a team that's up for sale. The movie came out in 1977 right before Star Wars demolished the Box Office as well as changed cinema and science fiction/fantasy forever, I guess the interesting thing is that this came out in February, and this is considered a cult following? Mainly yes, the movie does have interesting questions in terms of character development but deep down I think if I was going to recommend this film to anyone you just have to watch it for what it is, just a hockey film starring Paul Newman with a lot of bad language as well as vulgar language that you really can't make a film like this ever again. Speaking of Paul Newman, it's a bit of surprising as well as awesome that the filmmakers where able to cast Paul Newman in this film, especially when the language is something you'd never expect from Paul Newman, in fact Newman claimed that he swore very little in real life before making Slap Shot, moreover, said in a Time magazine interview in 1984 "There's a hangover from characters sometimes. There are things that stick. Since Slap Shot, my language is right out of the locker room!" For which Newman did state that he had the most fun he ever had made a movie was Slap Shot, moreover, said that his character is his most favorite character he's ever played. The interesting fact is that the film alone was released two years ago when the Philadelphia Flyer's won back to back Stanley Cups but got branded the name Broad Street Bullies for their fighting in every game they played in the early seventies so, really when you get a movie like this and NHL was big on fighting in the seventies then this movie came around that's best way to market movies like this. If there was one complaint I have about the movie alone it would most certainly be the piss poor ice conditions that the actors/hockey players we're skating on, I mean it's like every time they start to film the hockey scenes they just don't pay attention or get a Zamboni to clean the ice after every game, which I guess yeah you'd have to shoot those scenes in a hurray maybe get the entire sequences done and out of the way but you can at least clean the ice after a cut or a face off because it literally looks like they haven't even cared to make the ice in the Chiefs home arena look pretty. Having seen this four or five times I have to say that without a doubt this film does have that great comedic value especially when the film contains vulgar language and now comedy is just too safe to write for which makes comedy so boring when you're living in this decade of pure crap so deep down it's a blessing when you watch a film like Slap Shot and you get a breath of fresh air, even when you have a sense of humor like me. I would rank this in the top ten best guy movies of all time, but when it comes to recommendations, I would highly recommend it to anyone who still has a sense of humor, especially a movie you can't make these days as well as this decade. Moreover, my dad thought this movie was dumb and when my dad says this movie is dumb means he obviously loves the movie it's just like when we watch Reno 911, he looks at it as a dumb show but deep down he loves watching the show from start to finish.

         

Scarface (1932)

 

                                        Since Al Pacino's Scarface is forty years old, surprisingly. I figured I would take a step back in time and watch one of the original Scarface, the very one that has inspired Al Pacino's Scarface. And strangely enough this was my first time ever witnessing the 1932 version and I had no idea how connected both films are to each other in terms of scenes, dialogue mostly some iconic scenes that helped launch the 1983 version of Scarface.

                                         Key lieutenant of South Side Chicago crime boss Johnny Lovo (Osgood Perkins), Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) is an ambitious and reckless gangster who ignores warnings not to mess with Irish gangs on the North Side. When the North Side retaliates, Tony essentially massacres them, leaving him on top of the world. Worried about Tony's overconfidence, however, Johnny orders him killed, but this also backfires, and Tony finds himself even closer to becoming king of the city.

                                          In no surprise in terms of trying not to spoil the movie alone or wanting to tell you what happens at the end of the film, but both films combined have the same story premise as well as dialogue. For which really is no surprise though it was a little of a surprise for me because I didn't really expect Brian De Palma and Oliver Stone would do and having watched the original movie I really though in my mind was a little disappointing moreover feeling that's laziness on Stone's part, many reasons it's like you just copied the script and pasted all the lines from the original script and planted them to your script and granted yes I doubt anyone watched the 1932 version now though there some of them film critics or film buffs that are going to look at that and see that you just copied and pasted for the 83 version. For the film alone it's a great and outstanding movie in terms of action sequences especially when the film was made in the early thirties just like the Errol Flynn's Robin Hood where you're curious as to how they we're able to film all the action and stunts when bringing the film to life. The film alone was also involved with a lot of censorship because of its violence for which yeah, the movie isn't that violent but you have to understand that the thirties is a different time especially when your making movies and really Scarface was pushing the boundary when it comes to its violence along with Little Caesar and The Public Enemy especially when they filmed a scene that duplicates the Saint Valentines Day Massacre. And yet the funny thing is the Massacre happened in 1929 and Scarface was filmed in 32 so, three-year gap between the film and event that happened is extremely crazy to think about especially when a film like this was using the event to film a gangster movie like Scarface. As a Standalone movie, I would highly recommend watching it from start to finish if you’re big into old time classic movies or a huge fan of the Turner Classic Movie channel. To say which is better between the two films I really can't say because both of them have their unique qualities in terms of the settings and times each of these movies took place but I really can't say even though each of them I would separate from length wise but if I had to pick a good aspect on each of the films it would be the 32 version, is it's quality and the balls to be able to film a scene three years after the events of the Valentines Day Massacre and when it comes to the 83 version well obviously it's Pacino chewing the scenery which is funny to watch. So, if you're a fan of classic films I would highly recommend watching the 32 version of Scarface, or you cherish Al Pacino's Scarface than I would take the time of December to sit down and watch the full two and a half hours of Pacino chewing the scenery.

    

November Recommendation: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

 

                                

                                  The thing about monthly movie recommendations is that you must find that one movie that fits the theme of the month, like February which of course hits with chick flick films because of Valentines Day, October being of course Halloween and December mixed with Christmas well, I'll let you do the math. But then there's months out of the year like March or November where I have a hard time trying to find the right movie to fit out of that year and since November is the month of giving thanks aka Thanksgiving, It's one of those months where I really have my work cut out for me because of what would be movies I'd give thanks to, well thanks to my brother he picked a movie to watch with both my niece and nephew (though they both rushed off to bed or got their own things to do) we decided to sit down and watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and of all movies in the world this was the one true movie I most certainly give thanks to.

                                The intrepid explorer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) sets out to rescue his father (Sean Connery), a medievalist who has vanished while searching for the Holy Grail. Following clues in his old man's notebook, Indy arrives in Venice, where he enlists the help of a beautiful academic, but they are not the only ones who are on the trail, and some sinister old enemies soon come out of the woodwork.

                                 I know you all are going to find this hard to believe, but the third installment of the Indiana Jones films is one of the few films that made me who I am today. And sure you’re going to acted so surprise but that's true, this was one of the few movies my parents owned and I can watch over and over again just like the original Star Wars films the Last Crusade was one of these movies that I was allowed to watch a billion ties over, I mean every scene in this one movie I mimic every time I went outside and played, essentially Harrison Ford was my modern day John Wayne of a hero I looked up to growing up, and granted he was in Star Wars but is portrayal of Indiana Jones is what made him a legend in my eyes, and this was a time I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of movies so Star Wars and Indiana Jones became the two genres of films that were my greatest films to watch before I can be allowed to watch other films. Also was the one film that contains a LOT of sexual content that I never understood growing up like when Indy was asking his father "how did you know she was a Nazi"? And reply’s, "she talks in her sleep" I never understood that when I was maybe seventeen and I was like "UH", hell imagine your own dad being the first man to sleep with the one girl you fell in love with, hell I'd would be traumatized for life. Moreover, when I got older and loved all the Indiana Jones movies (well I still haven't seen the fifth one) they still to this day hold a special place in my heart and re-watching the Last Crusade brought back a lot of great memories I had growing up. Also, this was the first movie I watched with Sean Connery. Furthermore, I didn't know he was James Bond before a friend of mine introduced me to Goldfinger. And the same with learning that both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are great friends, and both brought this great character to life, so without a doubt both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are what introduced me and set me on the path of my love for films. Though both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are responsible for introducing my love of film I would never have loved musical scores without one of the greatest movie composers of all time, John Williams. I mean this is the man who created legendary musical scores from Jaws to Star Wars and even the iconic musical score from Episode I of Star Wars "Duel of Fates" and even John Williams is the reason why I chose to be a Band nerd in High School. With the number of villains in this movie from Julian Glover, the main bad guy of the film whose also been a lifelong General for the Galactic Empire in Empire Strikes Back to the actor who played Admiral Ozzel who morphs into Hitler for which looks lot like the evil German of WWII. But of all the villains in the movie one recognition that needs to be well deserved was a great German bad guy is Michael Byrne who plays the right hand of Julian Glover's character, and his appearance in the movie as well as being in equal to Harrison Ford when it comes to the action sequences is just outstanding moreover is a shame he doesn't get a whole lot of credit, moreover I would rank him in the top five greatest Nazi villains in movie history. Speaking of the action sequences reliving those again is amazing from start to finish moreover Harrison Ford proves how amazing of an action star he is through the course of the movie I mean let’s not forget this guy did staple his own fedora on his own head to keep his hat on, for when he rides a horse against a tank. Everyone will say that Raiders of the Lost Ark is the greatest Indiana Jones movie for which is correct but both Temple of Doom and Last Crusade are also amazing as well because without them we wouldn't have important elements of movie ratings today but more importantly we wouldn't have this film as being the great father and son film and Last Crusade shows, each of Ford's and Connery's acting abilities of playing both father and son who grow to separate from each other but in the end begin to have an understanding and love for each other. Now yes George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and John Williams are responsible for showing me films that I would still hold a special place in my heart but the two people I owe a lot of thanks for introducing me to this greatest action/adventure movie are my Mom and Dad because deep down it's really them who introduced me to Indiana Jones moreover were good parents in telling me when to look away when I was young. So, for this Thanksgiving I'd urge you to watch the one movie your parents introduced you as well as fell in love with from beginning to the fine frame. 

        

Air

 

                                      

                                     The story of the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan signing with the Nike shoe company became the second movie I watched on my Saturday of nothing to do moreover having no interest in wanting to watching Nebraska Football. Now granted I know the story about Michael Jordan signing with Nike hell I've watched The Last Dance furthermore they gave a clear description of how Nike was not the shoe of the early eighties until Michael Jordan came along. But again, it was a Saturday where I had nothing to do, I was looking after my brother’s client and the movie alone was on Amazon Prime so of course I was going to watch the movie. And on the bright side we had a good list of actors and actresses, and Ben Affleck was directing the film, moreover he directed some great films so it can't be worse than the Dungeons and Dragons movie.

                                    Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) and Nike pursue Basketball rookie Michael Jordan, creating a partnership that revolutionizes the world of sports and contemporary culture. 

                                    For a movie alone telling the story of a small shoe company in the early eighties, furthermore, telling the true story of how they we're able to acquire Basketball God Michael Jordan to sign at Nike. Honestly wasn't that bad, aside from that I already know they whole story after watching The Last Dance for which the give us a really good story about Jordan signing with Nike, but still is a good once over type movie upon which I don't feel the need to re-watch it again. To me what really save me the time in watching the movie all the way through is that the film has a great list of actors from Matt Damon to a surprising performance from Chris Tucker, and I'm not going to say a whole lot much to Ben Affleck because well it's Ben Affleck, it's not like he's trying to make a great performance like Argo for example. Though if I had to pick in actor or actress who really stole the whole show in the movie it would most certainly be Viola Davis for obvious reasons she really did a fantastic job in portraying all the categories that Mrs. Jordan aka Michael Jordan's mom had throughout her whole life, as well as helping her son all the way through and truly from the bottom of my heart, stating that Viola Davis was the true scene stealer throughout the whole movie. My big question I have with the movie was did the producers including Affleck binged on the Last Dance and wanted to make a movie after they saw the whole story about Nike? Because deep down that has to be the most honest answer I can really come up with, furthermore it makes the most scenes mainly the producers were literally in-doors when Covid happened moreover we're not ready scripts as they were supposed to do so they decided to watch the Last Dance just like Affleck was probably doing because he had nothing to do a side from filming the Last Duel as well as boning JLO on the side. So, once the Last Dance finished up airing, they were just aspired by the whole Nike story they decided to get a script written and have Affleck to direct it because the man will do anything for money even if it means staring in Dunkin commercials with a very young female rapper who we can all know that he's defiantly checking her out between takes, and HE DEFINATLY IS. And yet the saddest thing is that I can probably guess that the producers were all just not thinking logically in knowing that everyone who've seen the Last Dance would know the whole story about Nike. Either way when it comes to the film by itself, it's defiantly a good once over movie that I can honestly say I enjoyed it but really don't feel the need to re-watch it again unless someone forces me to watch it, especially when the film itself feel like an episode strait off Drunk History. So, all jokes a side if you've never seen the Last Dane or want to know more about the billion-dollar company that is Nike than I would highly recommend watching it on Amazon Prime, moreover, can say that it's not Affleck's best work but was a better improvement than Affleck's other movie Live by Knight were he bones Zoe Saldona if you know what I mean.

      

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

 

                                    

                                Well, here it is ladies and gentlemen, the Dungeons and Dragons movie that thirty minutes into I had to stop the film and wait for the weekend to watch, and luckily, I had to watch my brother’s client for which I took the whole Saturday to watch three films, starting with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor among Thieves. Furthermore, the final verdict I have with the movie is really one of the most pathetic films I've seen this year. Staring Chris Pine who again proves that hell half ass anything for a paycheck and Michelle Rodriguez as the only nerd/cougar that I would ever want to hook up in my lifetime.

                                A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embark on a quest to retrieve a long-lost relic, but their charming adventure goes dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

                                Now I'll admit, I've never played Dungeons & Dragons nor felt the need to play the game for many good reasons. I’ve got so many things to do and don't have a lot of time in the world to sit down and play. So, why I say that this was the most pathetic movie I've seen this year? Well for obvious reasons the filmmakers and writers, created a story but yet written it like they've never seen a movie before moreover forget the simplest steps of making some unexpected story ideas that the audience would never expect seeing but more importantly just create a story for everyone who've never played the game, into a movie that everyone can jump into and have a great time, and really that's kind of the impression I had when it appear on Amazon Prime, also seeing the reviews being positive and I'm the guy who just wants to sit back and wait till it goes on streaming service because I can't go to movies all the time in the movie theaters because it being expensive. And so while watching the movie, yes while watching the movie I just felt that the movie was slowly taking the turn of boredom and the characters not being that interesting at all, I mean they just felt like characters I've seen in every other movie like Chris Pine was playing that typical thief like Dad whose of course when he loses is wife becomes a terrible father and of course it takes Michelle Rodriguez to help in out because of course you need a woman to straighten him out. But again it story elements like this, is the reason why I felt this movie was just dull and unimpressed like why couldn't you have a father training his daughter to be a thief so they can go on quests together and then they have a falling out and years later he realizes how terrible of a father he was and go and save her, hell this is a fantasy adventure movie it's ideas like this that can make your Dungeons and Dragons movie look interesting to watch moreover be intriguing to see. And even watching the movie all the way through I can predict what was going to happen for which again makes the movie alone boring to see because I want to be proved wrong in how this movie in my own mind is going to go, like I really want the filmmakers to come out to my face and say your wrong this is how it's going to turn out, but no they just turned this movie in the most dullest films of 2023. Now I've said this before yes I've never played the game but I know story and structure enough to say that this was one of the most laziest films I've seen in quite a long time and would highly recommend not to watch this movie especially when the movie is two hours and fifteen minutes long like that is just way too long to sit through a boring movie with flat characters overly predictable story that even I can be like Johnny Carson's fortune teller character and predict what is going to happen in the movie from start to finish.

       

Into the Badlands

 

                        This was one of the rare few times, I ever look at a TV series and say that "this was one of the few shows I consider to be a true masterpiece in itself", One of the rare few times ever on TV where I can do nothing but binge an entire show through and through and what makes this show great? Well, it contains a good story, good drama as well as great character development, along with great action sequences and finally outstanding martial arts fights. 

                        AMC's goal for "Into the Badlands" was twofold: produce a compelling character drama. and introduce the highest caliber of martial arts filmmaking to a weekly, ongoing series. Left in the hands of creators Alfred Gough and Miles Miller (Shanghai Noon, Smallville), the series stars Daniel Wu as ruthless, prodigiously skilled warrior Sunny, who mentors teenage boy M.K. during spiritual journey across a feudal civilization known as the Badlands. With the help of trained assassins like Sunny, the area is ruled by rival barons, and for decades Quinn has consistently outflanked and outmaneuvered his fellow barons to keep the upper hand. His invincibility, however, begins to fade considering brazen attacks by the newest baron, The Widow, who believes M.K. is the key to her success. As the battle for control of the Badlands heats up, the destinies of the stoic assassin and impetuous teenager become intertwined.

                        In one of the rare and mostly few times when making an epic martial arts or kung fu style of show is really making the fights believable moreover having wide angle lenses so you can see everything. And, Into the Badlands really does that well like even the first beginning part of the first episode the filmmakers and fight choreographers don't hold back when it comes to going full wide camera lens and showing you all the full fight scenes not just using so many quick cuts where you don't see anything. And really that's what makes this show so amazing to watch especially when the fight choreographer, Master Dee Dee Kuma who was a stunt double for a number of Jet Li's movies, as well as choreographer for the Matrix, Kill Bill, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the master mind behind all of the fights in the TV series and the man did an impressive job especially when he makes comedic actor Nick Frost look like an action star. Even actor Daniel Wu who plays the lead role in the show, does most of his own stunts and fighting scenes himself, unlike the other cast members. Moreover, has been learning Wu Shu and other martial arts since he was a young boy and still practices. Speaking of Daniel Wu who's the main star of the show does such a great job playing his character as a sort of naïve and arrogant but also a man who begins to know what the right thing to do and when the time is right to do it especially when it cost him at times. Now as great as Daniel Wu is in the show a lot of credit goes to the two actors who play the main antagonists in the show Martin Csokas and Babou Ceesay, both don't share the screen together but both of them deliver performances in which you as the audience member just can't stand their characters and is wanting to see them die and that's what makes this show great to watch is that you have these TV villain's that you despise through the course of the show moreover what to desperately finish because of the terrible acts these two characters do and want to see them die a horrible death. Now I'm going to do my best and not give away so much because this is a show, I desperately want to recommend it to everyone to watch even though you're going to have to buy it. Although this show was short lived for many reasons, it was out of money and moreover suffered through the Covid attack, the real reason was that it just increased so much story and didn't start off small and work up. Either way this is an amazing Martial Arts show from start to finish moreover up there in the top five or ten greatest shows of all time.  

               

Mortal Kombat Deception: Replay Review

 

                              After getting some fun play time to Mortal Kombat 1, and so I thought would be a great idea for which would mostly likely be the worst mistake turned insanity deuced idea I could possibly think of, was to play one of the earlier Mortal Kombat games on the PlayStation 2. Now, before I dive deep into the insane asylum that is Mortal Kombat: Deception, I should recommend not to play this game even if you have a PlayStation 2 or feel nostalgic in even wanting to play this installment to the Mortal Kombat franchise. And even if you have that thought after reading this review of Mortal Kombat: Deception furthermore wanting to buy a PlayStation 2 and then wanting to play Mortal Kombat: Deception, I will still tell you not to travel into that world where you would most certainly lose your mind even playing the game. For many reasons the definition of insanity states is trying to fix something or situation to make it better but still haven't found the right way.

                             To explain my reasons of why you should not dive deep into the world of PS2's Mortal Kombat is not because of the gameplay in fact the gameplay is awesome, even with the Puzzle Kombat or Chess Kombat, yes there is that in the game moreover there was Motor Kombat in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, for which my guess was they were trying to compete with Nintendo Game Cube at the time. Anyway, the POINT that I'm trying to make here is, is that MK Deception was one of the first fighting games ever to force you in having to play the awful moreover maddening that is the Konquest mode of the video game itself. In fact growing up when I first was allowed to play Mortal Kombat Deception I was curious as to why a good chunk of the fighting rosters were all locked and you can't access them or select them to play, well that's because you have to play the Konquest Mode in order to unlock the rest of the MK characters in the game, for which follows the story of Shujinko and being deceived by the Dragon King, Onaga and this was the first introduction to Shujinko and his who thing is that Onaga gives him the ability to absorb all of the past characters fighting styles and special moves so through the course of the game you have to learn all of the characters moves, fighting styles and special movies and the problem which in Ed Boon's defense and his crew this was literally there first time doing a story mode to a fighting game moreover they had to do the best they can with what they had when it comes to Play Station 2 and the original Xbox, but having to do all, and learn the kombo moves is just so insanely hard to do that you have to have a good stroke of luck because no matter what you’re not going to get them within one take you have to try your best or you have to stop yourself and take a break for which I did and whenever I succeeded I raised my arms up in a victory pose, because I amazed myself that I at my old age was able to beat the game, but even when you play as Shujinko at the very end of the game, you have to win three rounds at once without you're special moves and that's just unfair moreover I completely forgot about that. And when you do finish the Konquest mode for which I did, it becomes fun again especially when you've unlocked all the characters but even before it is just a konquest of how far you’re willing to go to pull your hair out. Even reliving the konquest mode I've begun to enjoy the character of Shujinko because he reminds me a lot of Pai Mei in the movie Kill Bill Volume 2 and hopefully in futures to come I hope he gets reinvented, though for now I'm just going to have to enjoy playing the character on the Play Station 2. Now having played Mortal Kombat: Deception and accomplished unlocking all the characters in the konquest mode, I would highly recommend to all of the Mortal Kombat fans to not go back to this game and replay the story mode unless you want to make a stay insane asylum be my guest.

     

                                  

Fargo

 

                                     So, it's like this I needed to find a movie to start off the new month so, I decided to sit down and watch the latest Dungeons & Dragons movie and sadly thirty minutes into the movie I began to slowly see how unimpressed I was with the actors themselves moreover predicting where this was going to go so, I was like I might need a weekend to watch this movie whole. So, sadly I decided to put this movie a side for now, but then realizing well I'm hearing this trend called Noirvember basically a celebration of the film noir genre that is now modernized into neo-noir. For which deep down I was excited to dive into this month with because I've said this million times film noir or neo-noir has become my favorite genre, ever since watching The Third Man. And so, the night became a trial and error for about two minutes till I was like, well I'm binging on the Fargo show that the Coen Brothers film is based on for which leads us to me sitting down and watching the Coen Brothers masterpiece, Fargo.

Macy) is a car salesman in Minneapolis who has gotten himself into debt and is so desperate for money that he hires two thugs to kidnap his own wife. Jerry will collect the ransom from her wealthy father (Harve Presnell), paying those thugs a small portion and keeping the rest to satisfy his debts. The scheme collapses when the thugs shoot a state trooper.

                                     Many of the Coen Brothers films are good and you have to watch it more than once to really understand the story itself, but Fargo is without a doubt a movie you can watch and continue watching a bunch of times. In fact, I would see this as their greatest masterpiece on film next to The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men, hell the movie is so good they produced a show on it so, deep down has its impact. Though really what makes the films legendary is that it has a simple murder mystery where all the characters you meet in the movie has that memorable quote for which you'll reference repeatedly but more importantly has two great story tellers as well as legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins and a great list of actors and actress. Like Francis McDormand is an exceptional actress and she was great in it moreover won in Oscar for her performance in the movie, Steve Buscemi has always been that iconic actor that really hasn't lost is touch even though he makes really bad choices in movies like all of Adam Sandler's movies, though I can slide when it comes to Michael Bay's films but dear God there's a time to just say no when staring in a Sandler comedy, but also comes out with some great films like Reservoir Dogs, The Death of Stalin as well as his roles in the Coen Brothers movies. And sure you have these great actors/actresses in McDormand and Buscemi but the tree scene stealers William H. Macy, Harve Presnell and Peter Stomare, Macy at the center of the movie plays his character in a very dumb/over confident character that's not a good guy but for some reasons you kind of sympathize with the guy, then he goes back to just this pathetic man that by the end of the movie you are satisfied of how his fate was sealed. Harve Presnell who plays Macy's father-in-law in the movie who in all honesty is the true scene stealer in the movie I mean the way he delivers his lines through the course of the movie is just pure genius that he steals scenes like Ronald Acuna Jr steals bases. Lastly Peter Stomare who plays one of the thugs is amazing in the movie and even though he has very little lines in the film, Stomare's body language is just incredible that you can't describe it from him looking at Buscemi's character as if he's offended by him not wanting to stop for pancakes is just genius to when he can't hear McDormand in the finale is just great that he's another one of those great treasures that always steals the scene in fact the surprising thing is that him and Buscemi reunite in Michael Bay's Armageddon where he plays the Russian in the satellite station though they both together are in The Big Lebowski and yet they don't share a scene together, but the important thing is that he also is a "that guy" where you look at his face and slowly recognize that he was in a certain movie you don't remember but slowly realize he was in that one movie which is sad but let's be honest the more you live in Hollywood the more housing becomes expensive. If I had to make a list of 100 of the greatest films of all time, Fargo would most certainly be in that category probably in the top ten or fifteen because it has that great story where you can watch it over and over again moreover has a visual sense of a crime drama set in the winter wonderland that his North Dakota and Minnesota, in fact I'd probably have my own parents sit down and watch this great movie because I most certainly know they haven't seen it. Furthermore, I would highly recommend watching this film to everyone getting ready for the cold weather to murder us, but also recommend it to anyone who hasn't indulged in the Coen Brothers filmography.

             

Five Nights at Freddy's

 

                                         

                                          The final scary movie to watch in the month of October and what a great way to review a movie I recently watched with the kiddo's at the movie theaters, and I'm not going to lie when I say this, but this movie I've seen with the kiddos, was a billion times better than the Meg 2, though that's not saying a whole lot about Meg 2 because anything I've seen in 2023 was better than Meg 2. Five Night's at Freddy's is based on a video game titled, Five Night's at Freddy's for which was a big surprised because I had no idea that it was before I was tasked by my brother to take the kid's to see this movie and from the words of my little niece whose a big fan of scary movies tells me that one of her friends plays the game at school, which to me is funny because I guess now you can get away with anything at school. Either way she tells me that her friend plays the game and wants to see the film so she can brag to her friend that she's seen it.

                                          A troubled security guard (Josh Hutcherson) begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the late shift at Freddy's won't be easy to make it through. 

                                          The game alone how I can describe it in a nutshell, it's basically a horror game (not like the Last of Us) where you basically sit in a security room making sure nothing happens to you with very little power, getting more to the point don't let the costume creatures get you. And I've done my homework and it's terrifying for there's no way in hell I'm wanting to play this game because I'm thirty-six and I got to worry about my health. Had I'd not known that the movie itself was co-written by the developer of the game Scott Cawthon, I'd probably be intrigued to see the movie because having the creator help write the screenplay brings a much special thing when adapting a video game like this, hell it would have been better if co-creator Ed Boon wrote the screenplay to 2021's Mortal Kombat. I do feel it's a little unfair that the film is receiving negative reviews because the film alone is not bad in fact I looked at the film as a surprising hidden gem that I never thought would be this good, I mean sure the acting alone is a bit ridiculous mainly coming from the evil aunt furthermore the scumbags being hired to trash the place which seems a bit over doing it especially when it comes to creating a creepy horror movie, for many reasons why would you go in a place like this. And sure the acting on that side is chewing the scenery but at the core of the movie it's also a sweet brother and sister story with the big brother with a troubled backstory trying in the best of his abilities to take care of his sister and I personally relate to that because I too worry about my own nieces and nephews at times moreover I got my own personal worries along the way, so really the story alone is relatable, and the way Josh Hutcherson was able to portray the character is without a doubt the best acting I've seen him do. But more importantly the film itself has a great mystery story to it as well along with a perfect twist to the reveal of the end. So, deep down I look at the film as a good movie that Alfred Hitchcock would have directed if he had the resources and this movie alone needs to be an important example of you want to create a suspenseful/creepy film, this was a great example. I was surprised by this movie's story and looked at it as one of the best hidden treasures I've seen in 2023, and with Halloween season ending I would highly recommend watching this, and you will most certainly not be disappointed.  

     

October Recommendation: Sleepy Hollow

 

                                  I had other October Recommendations to see when it came for a Halloween themed film. Though really it became clear after finishing childhood Sleepy Hollow films and TV that Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow would no doubt be my recommendation for the month of October. Sure there was The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad via 1949 but no debate the greatest movie adaption has always been Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, staring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci (who I was surprised was 19 when staring in the film) along with an incredible list of supporting actors from Michael Gambon aka Harry Potter, Christopher Lee aka Christopher Lee, Ian McDiarmid aka Emperor Palpatine, along with Michael Gough aka Alfred from the first two Batman films Burton directed and Christopher Walken as well as the ever talented, underappreciated Stunt man Ray Park.

                                  Set in 1799, "Sleepy Hollow" is based on Washington Irving's classic tale "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Faithful to the dreamy custom-bound world that Irving paints in his story, the film mixes horror, fantasy and romance and features an extraordinary cast of characters that dabble in the supernatural. 

                                   Granted it's been quite a long time since I watched this Tim Burton classic but no doubt this is the greatest and only faithful adaption to Sleepy Hollow I've ever seen, and this is it's only film about Irving's classic tale so there's no mystery that none of the film producers out there today would ever touch this film and try to remake it, and even if they did how can you really capture the magic and the story Tim Burton himself created in the first place? And to sum up that answer you really can't for many reasons, you'd try to do something different and it would never work. Why it wouldn't work mainly because writer Andrew Kevin Walker really sat down and created a version of Sleepy Hollow that makes the most sense of any story but more importantly stayed true to the source material as well. The way the film itself was developed started around 1993, Kevin Yagher, a make-up designer who had turned to directing with Tales from the Crypt, had the notion to adapt Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow into a feature film. Through his agent, Yagher was introduced to Andrew Kevin Walker; they spent a few months working on the film's treatment that transformed Ichabod Crane from a schoolmaster from Connecticut to a banished New York City detective. And really the idea of making Crane a detective is the most genius idea moreover making the film alone as a mystery film that that blends both horror and the supernatural in the best way possible. Also, it makes the perfect sense of creating a story into film because if you made this guy the same as he was in the short story it wouldn't be interesting to watch on film I mean sure it would work on Shelley Duvall's Tall Tale and Legends show, but on film it would be a disaster. Now, the way I was introduced to the movie was of course through Dish on Demand previews furthermore notice the R rating on the preview and thought to myself "well of course I wasn't going to see it" though through the course of like a year I ended up seeing it mainly because my brother said it wasn't scary moreover not gory so in the end I got around to watching it back then and was obsessed with the movie, I mean it was one of the many few movies that came out in 1999 that I though was great and amazing at the same time and also learned that Ray Park was the Headless Horseman so that was a bigger plus because he was one of the greatest villain's in the Star Wars Universe hence Darth Maul. Surprisingly, this was the first movie I was introduced to Johnny Depp though to be fair there maybe a few in terms of Dish On Demand previews though in all fairness those don't count so Sleepy Hollow was my first Johnny Depp film, moreover I would defiantly rank this in his top five best performances for many reasons, I love the fact that is portrayal of Crane is yes true to the character in terms of his being afraid but is also brave as well as really smart when it comes to solving murders. But most importantly he's also got a great list of supporting actors including the late great Michael Gambon whose most remembered for Dumbledore, but his greatness in the film was him telling the story of the Headless Horseman, and really him telling that origin story I kind of wished he was narrating more books. Though the Late Christopher Lee's performance in the movie is very slim he also does a great job in the first act of the movie sending Depp's character to Sleepy Hollow and the same goes to Ian McDiarmid does a great job despite his role being small as well. Which leads us finally to the Horseman himself or two of them, Christopher Walken and Ray Park starting first with Christopher Walken, I honestly don't know how Burton decided to cast Walken as the Horseman but really was genius for many reasons mainly is that he gives Walken chompers along with the wig and tells him "look Chris this is a small role so all I want you to do is just roar and I'm afraid to be the bear of bad news but that's your only lines", now that's just an assumption but it makes perfect sense, for which leads us to Ray Park aka Darth Maul, now yes Walken plays the Horseman with a head but I have to believe that Ray Park was the main stunt double for Walken's fight sequences because there's no way he would be able to do all of the sword and ax twirling was done by Park, and really all the praise goes to Park because along with Walken he helped create whole presence of the Headless Horseman moreover brings a lot of character especially when it comes to his fighting style and how he walks and rides, even a great scene where he butchers a family we hear his spur's which brings a extra level of awesome because it's like the grim reaper coming into you're house ready to kill you in you're sleep, and really that's what make Ray Park such a great character actor and stunt man because he is able to transform himself into the character not using words but using appearance as his strong suit on screen. Now granted I had to close all the logic out of my head because yes the movie is a fantasy/horror movie but when it comes to the action sequences it's really amusing how the Headless Horseman is able to craft a scorpion spear without a head. Having watched the film for the first time in quite a while, I have to say this was a great murder mystery film from start to finish it plays out great as a who done it story moreover is a great visual stunning set piece that I believe everyone will enjoy and despite that the film is an R rating I would also tell all the parents out there that this is an appropriate movie for the kids and yes it may sound crazy but I also have a niece that watches scary movies furthermore is in the fourth grade and this movie alone she would say is a great movie to watch on Halloween.                       

Movies I haven't seen in a While: Tower of Terror

 

                                          HEY LOOK! I found a Halloween hidden gem buried deep into the wonders of YouTube, based off one of the greatest Disney rides ever created at Disney World's resort in Orlando Florida. Tower of Terror (the ride) in my mind is without a doubt one of the top five greatest Disney rides of all time and I can say that because I've been to Disney World twice and it's defiantly a great thing going on that ride. I've always said before once you go to any of the Disney Theme parks you will never appreciate any other rides or theme parks out there. And I've never been to the Tower of Terror till like the summer of 2003, and so the only way I can really experience those kinds of things was watching a movie based on the ride. For which I present to you Disney's movie adaptation to Tower of Terror.

                                       A journalist (Steven Guttenberg) and helpers (Kirsten Dunst and Nia Peeples) investigates a 1939 mystery in which five people vanished from a hotel elevator on Halloween. 

                                        Though I'll admit it's been quite a long time since I watched this hidden gem, and yes it does have some bizarre questions in terms of the protagonist's profession of making up stories on a so called newspaper for which in all honesty I remember going to grocery stores all the time and seeing some strange gossip papers that I didn't believe to be true so, deep down there really is or might be a profession out there although I'm not for sure if it's still out there even though I have no clue how they would get away with that such profession. Now the movie itself is a family movie with very slowness in terms of scenes and dialogue but it still has that fun-ish way of telling a story about helping the past find some closure in life moreover trying overcome obstacles in life, but more importantly has a good story about jealousy and forgiveness that I believe the rest of the family can enjoy. But most importantly the film itself does have a fantastic list of actors starting with Scott Guttenberg who’s infamous with the Police Academy films, furthermore does a great job playing this duchy guy but with a good heart. And a side from Guttenberg you also have two recognizable actresses, an up-and-coming in Kirsten Dunst who had a ton of movies under her belt with Interview with a Vampire, Jumanji and Small Soldiers and sure she was a little over the top in terms of accusing people, but she was really the best part about the movie. And most importantly you get the most surprising actress in the movie Melora Hardin aka Jan, for the Office for which was a big surprise because I do remember seeing her in the film while back and this was when the Office was still a big thing and I do believe she as well does a great job in the movie being this strong woman who sympathies with Guttenberg's character although in a strange way but in the end does. Another unappreciative actor that's been in a lot of shows and movies in the 90's is Mike McShane who was in a lot of like family films or shows most notably the side character of the Lawrence Brothers (Joey Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence and Andy Lawrence) show called Brotherly Love and the family movie about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn titled Tom and Huck,  and along with Tower of Terror but also was in small role in Office Space moreover played Friar Tuck in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood and then, the poor guy just disappeared from the media though I guess he did a lot of voice acting from then on. Even McShane does a great job playing the lovable goof ball that's doesn't want to set foot in the haunted hotel but in the end helps the ghost cross over. The production itself is really a mystery mainly because there's not a whole lot of what I can find, but I assume that some of the film was either shot on California or in Florida and I'm guessing they filmed in Florida because they would film at the ride itself because in all honesty they had to get the exterior shots of the Hotel, but really they did a fantastic job with interior shots of the hotel making more believable just like the ride itself when you're waiting in line itself so major props to the filmmakers and production designers of bringing the whole look of the ride to life. Despite being a TV movie, the film alone is really entertaining until the final frame and more importantly is a great nostalgia movie that brings you back to when Disney was a simple company and not just a money-grubbing whore that would annoy the husband and would take a good chunk of the alimony every year of your life. Though according to Wikipedia, "As of 2023, the film is not available on any streaming service or aired on any television channels for unknown reasons though maybe related to the films production under a dual partnership, MGM is now owned by Amazon, which is in a direct streaming competition with Disney's Disney + service". So, there's a reason why I found this movie on YouTube and another great reason why the film alone has been disappeared just like the main characters to the Tower of Terror ride, although you can find the movie on Amazon as a DVD copy so if you have a DVD player you can defiantly purchase it furthermore it's also under ten bucks. Having relived this silly entertaining ninety-minute movie I would most certainly recommend watching this movie if you want to relive your childhood like me, and I surprisingly go my niece into loving the movie so that's a positive effect to this forgotten hidden gem of a film.

           

Evil Toons

 

                                           One of the many movies, I'm going to look back on and say that I'd rather let the guys at Red Letter Media watch these kinds of movies and make the jokes on their own because to God's truth I couldn't find anything new to say. Evil Toons was another one of those B-movies that Red Letter Media reviewed on one of their Halloween episodes on YouTube, moreover, learning it that it was on Freevee which is basically Amazon's way of subscribing to their streaming service and yet you can have this free service that contains free movies and shows. Now Evil Toons from what I can describe is probably one of the best descriptions of a sleazy director making a film about half naked women running around in almost nothing. But has one of the greatest movies opening with David Carradine and don't you worry will get to that later.

                                         Four Sorority sisters get more than they bargained for when they agree to renovate a haunted mansion.

                                          Now the half-naked women weren’t what sold me to this movie I just want to assure everyone that was not the main reason. And trust me if I'd told you that was the main reason, then it would be insanely sad and moreover pathetic for which that's a lot to say about the movie itself. The real reason of why I wanted to sit down and watch the movie was that it foresaw the foreseeable future of David Carradine's death. And if you don't remember how David Carradine died, the man basically hanged himself while masturbating to what maybe porn or some bizarre deadly sex play though either way the first opening scene of the movie is David Carradine hanging himself for no apparent reason nor explanation and I couldn't help but laughing because it was so unexpected and it looked like he was fully committed to hang himself. And sure yes you can feel bad because yes the man died, but here's the thing the man didn't die of actual suicide because the man was happy with his life and loved doing what he did as an actor but again he basically hanged HIMSELF OF STRANGE EROTIC FANTASY! which it's been a good 14 years since the event took place but come on, if that doesn't give you a good laugh I don't know what does and if you don't have a sense of humor then my friend that's on you. Furthermore that was it with the movie for many reasons it was just flat out dull because again it just a bunch of bimbos half naked running around a mansion trying to be funny moreover breaking a spell to destroy this only cartoon which again I don't understand why this has a cartoon though in all honesty Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out in 1988, so in fairness that was basically Hollywood's attempt to make another one of these kinds of films though this is a porno without the sex. Speaking of director Fred Olen Ray, this guy is defiantly a sleaze ball because when through the course of this guy's filmography he's directed a ton of pornos for which he changed his name in those film credits but once I looked that up, I was like "okay that makes sense of why this movie, is what it is". Although the movie has one of the greatest comedic openings for a movie buff like me for which for saw how David Carradine died but, deep this movie was just dull and lame mostly boring because what again the things that make bad movies funny is that their unintentionally funny and this movie was trying way too hard to be funny and that's the biggest problem with the movie alone. Now seeing this movie I'm now going to just let the guys at Red Letter Media watch these bad films and come up with the jokes.

         

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow through childhood Media

 

                                         With the season of Halloween among us moreover a time for fall, pumpkin spice everything hopefully not everything. I figured why not take a dive back into my childhood of spooky media that I grew up watching. Now, if you were my age you'd grew up with some of these mild-mannered family themed Halloween movies or shows and really one of them was this TV special created by someone I'd never expect, Shelley Duvall and TV-esh show was titled Shelley Duvall presents American Tall Tales & Legends and one of first episodes was the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, for which this was my first introduction to that story of a school teacher whose chased by a mysterious Horseman without a head. And so, now re-watching this hidden gem I got to admit this really wasn't all bad, in fact I was impressed with some of the set designs they were able to do in terms of visuals moreover the look and feel to it that really brought back a nostalgia to it that I never expect to come back. And really, if you we're my age again these were the shows and movies that you'd grew up watching because my parents would never in a million years let me watch A Nightmare on Elm Street or The Shining so, this was one of these things I was allowed to watch. The impressive factor of this version of Sleepy Hollow was that Beverly D'Angelo plays Katrina Van Tassel for which I completely forgot but was impressed with her portrayal mainly because I look back on Vacation looking down on how dumb her husband was is a little on the surreal. Even to the ending of this episode it's still interesting the way they were able to adapt this into TV show about American legends for many reasons if you were wanting to adapt this as its true format I don't think you'd get a better story wise on film then you would TV and thank God for Tim Burton in being able to make it a mystery film. 

                            

                          Another one of those movies/shows that I grew up watching when it comes to the story of Sleepy Hollow, was the Adventures of Ichabod and Mister Toad, which really is not at all true because Mister Toad was an insane Toad that's blowing off his money like a stockbroker blowing his drug money on cocaine. Though let’s be honest it's Walt Disney so he had to of come up with a title that would work in the fifties. Though again if you'd get past the story about Mister Toad, which is really about a Toad who spends so much money on things he doesn't need and for some reason is accused of a crime he didn't commit but any way this is all about Sleepy Hollow so we're skipping Mister Toad and talking about Ichabod Crane. Like, the Tall Tales & Legends version it's basically the same premise where the schoolteacher Crane is trying to win the affections of Katrina for which his rival Brom Bones is trying to do the same for which leads to one night on Halloween, fate occurs when you bring up a spooky legend of the Headless Horseman. Now before I forget anything the Legend of Sleepy Hollow was in fact based on a short story by Washington Irving, and having watched the Tall Tales version and the Disney version I kind of thought in my own point of view that the character of Ichabod Crane is a generous man but is also a superstitious man who is for some reason is afraid of nighttime moreover can't get any sleep at all for which is strange to me because I even I don't know how that makes any sense in terms of how that can be portrait and deep down I think the better portrayal of Crane if I had to compare these two nostalgia themed movies and episodes is definitely Disney's version because in Shelley Duvall's show they kind of over did it in terms of Crane's paranoia with the night time although it's funny but a little confused as to why they would think that was funny. Having relived some of these childhood movies and shows, I’m not going to lie in how fun it was to look back on these media to Sleepy Hollow and now I have the need to re-watch Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow because I'd truly would say that is probably the best version of Washington Irving's short story, for many reasons if you portrait-ed it the way Irving did, you wouldn't have a better version of Sleepy Hollow. Now, I don't know if I would recommend the kids in wanting to watch these hidden gems, for many reasons kids now a days are just watching everything that there is no way at all they would want to watch these media but if you're a grown man like me who loves reliving the nostalgia with movies and shows I'd highly recommend watching these hidden gems of Sleepy Hollow.     

Repo! The Genetic Opera

 

                                        This ladies and gentleman, is a movie I remember in 2008, and looked at it as a movie that I would never in a million years wanted to watch and this was 2008, the year Dark Knight became a box office success moreover I was 22 years old. Through years of movie watching behind me, furthermore it was on Tubi a streaming service where anyone can use when it comes to free things though must put up with commercials or ads. Repo! The Genetic Opera is one of those movies that I still have no idea of how producers can look at this movie and simply say "yes will defiantly green light this movie".  For many reasons yes, it's a musical and yes has a lot of science fiction elements to the film, but also has this Gothic/heavy metal feel to it, and it's really, really, weird.

                                        In the mid-21st century, an epidemic of organ failures leads to the rise of GenCo., a company providing transplants at a great price. Those who miss their payments become targets of GenCo. mercenaries, who repossess the organs. In a world of drug addiction and legalized murder, a sheltered youth (Alexa Vega) seeks cure for her rare diseases as well as information about her family's mysterious history. Her questions are answered at "The Genetic Opera."

                                        What makes the film weird is how producers can look at a based rock musical, but also a carbon copy of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and sure I've never seen it but I'm confident it has Tim Curry who’s either a man or woman for which either way is unimportant. Yes, I've seen previews moreover images of Rocky Horror Picture Show furthermore can look at a movie like Repo! The Genetic Opera and see how clearly it has the same feel as Rocky Horror Picture Show, but is also a gothic, rock, horror, musical that contains some decent actors one who’s a real singer and one who does not belong in acting nor should of been allowed to sing as well because she's a horrible singer. Now if you’re having trouble on who I'm talking about don't worry it's Paris Hilton whose one of the cast members in the movie, and so if you were me in a teenager or a college man you'd be hearing of the Hilton sisters both Paris and Nicky Hilton (Nicky was mostly a twin sister that didn't have a whole lot of quote on quote fame so she doesn't matter) and they would always appear on the Red Carpet on movie premieres' or Award shows, like these two broads were so rich and famous for being part of the Hilton family of hotels & resorts moreover Paris was at the center of that but like Kim Kardashian she also had a sex tape that made her even more famous plus gave her a bunch of reality shows, came out with her own music album titles Paris, with her only one hit wonder Stars Go Blind for which leads us to Repo! The Genetic Opera because whoever was the casting director heard her album moreover her past acting films where she died in almost every movie. And really when Repo was coming out in 2008, it was her singing that was so cringe and felt like you’re watching a car crash as well as a train wreck that you can't stop but watch, and this was 08, that I was like yeah I'm not going to watch this, until now I figured this wasn't going to hurt me but it does ask me questions of why? Why in God's name would you cast a rich socialite like Paris Hilton with not talent no experience in acting or singing, TO BE IN YOU'RE MOVIE? Either way it doesn't matter when it comes to Paris Hilton because I found a satisfying fact that she won a Golden Raspberry Award for worst performance in a supporting role so, deep down there are good people out there to say that Hilton was the worst choice. The other thing in what makes me question why to green light a movie like Repo, is that this was a gothic Rock musical and you remember all the South Park episodes where they included like four Goth kids and are just like "ah I hate my parents, f*ck life, call me night pain" and I even remember a few kids in my High School class that were all about wearing over dramatic makeup and donning black hoodies which is in sane really in how that memory came out into the open moreover that's basically what this movie really is, in a future we've all tuned into lame Goth people where our favorite store is Hot Topic and thank God that this movie was set in the year 2056 because if I woke up into that world I wouldn't hesitate to jump off the ledge. I do question everyone in the movie sinking because they cast the only Opera singer in the movie Sarah Brightman whose resume dates back to Andrew Lloyd Webber's first Phantom of the Opera does a good job in this movie which really is the only compliment I can really give, but also cast like Paul Sorvino whose best known for Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas for which I'm curious if he really did sing in the movie for many reasons the guy is Italian and all Italian's can sing at an Opera level though really it's not a big deal of a question to ask because I'm not going to watch this film again. There will be times where I am not feeling the need or wanting to watch a movie but when a weird movie comes around 97 minutes long, you can't resist because you never know if you find something that's refreshing moreover can't resist in embracing how strange the film is furthermore can't help in watching the train wreck singing that is Paris Hilton. So, if you're a Goth person who wears nothing but black, has black hair, wears way too much make up, love going to Hot Topic, have a hatred for your parents and life? Well, then this movie is without a doubt your cup of blood tea. 

          

                                             

Piranha

 

                                          Well, we're nearly getting close to Halloween season, and I figured why not talk about a movie that was trying to be the next Jaws franchise but no doubt the most awful yet very sad thing to watch when you look at the movie itself. Piranha in 1978, was supposed to be kind of the next Jaws movie, in that it's about a killer fish that stalks the waters and kills people lurking in the waters, hell I'm surprised we didn't have a movie yet were a killer whale comes out of the water's molests kids and eats them but I guess we live in a safe space of a generations where we can't do that anymore. Either way, Piranha was another one of those B-movie nights with my brother where we both are trying to expand our horizons and, in the end, I'm glad I got to watch the original Piranha before they made remakes of the film back in 2010, for many reasons the real one being I absolutely hate this movie from start to finish.

                                          When thousands of military hybrid piranhas are accidentally released into a children's Holiday camp uses, the race is on to get downstream before the flesh-eating fish do. 

                                          Now the film itself was supposed to be this parody of the classic 1975, Jaws. And yet the main problem I had with the movie was this supposed to be some sort of comedy or a low-budget horror movie? And really if this was supposed to be a comedic parody to Jaws than they really failed miserably at it, especially when it comes to making this funny or unintentionally funny, and if this was supposed to be the next Horror spin from Jaws then they did a mediocre job because a lot of what happens in the movie is so what funny but is like "are you kidding me?" Like there are certain ways to make this scary or funny, I mean maybe the couple who go skinny dipping are drinking some booze then the dude spills some on her girl and she's like "oh well I guess I'm going to have to take my top off", because really this movie is supposed to be a knock off to Jaws so why not just make it more ridiculousness, like a beach party where everyone is playing strip volleyball or an entire plank set on fire and women are trapped on it and they remove their tops to the life guard in order to get attention, and granted those ideas alone would probably make the film worst but it would be better than what the creators were doing with this movie. Sure some of the mistakes in the movie are funny but really when you watch the whole movie you slowly get annoyed about how bad the mistakes continue, a great example of that was when our main protagonists along with a mad scientist (who was responsible of the Piranha's) helps save a kid risking his life and instead of pulling out a half corpse they pulled out a full bodied corpse that looked like it was bitten all over and decided to half ass and not eat half of the corpse, which sure this is a low budget movie but yet you're able to have a full squad of military cast as well as van's and jeeps which is like really, you couldn't just mold a half of a corpse that was devoured by a bunch of piranha's? Which is beyond me to grasp that understanding especially when this is a low budget horror movie. Moreover, the attack on a kid’s camp is just barbaric and find it unnecessary, because really, I would of wished other ways to have that big piranha attack but really not attacking kids, maybe teenagers or college f*ck ups for many reasons one of them they make poor decisions and you feel good inside. A side from this being produced by Roger Corman, it still doesn't change the fact this was one of those cliched, flawed horror movies that wasn't funny at all in terms of how badly made the movie was moreover taking so long in terms of story wise also being super obnoxious of what this movie is supposed to be is one of the many reasons why I would never want to watch this film ever again and more importantly would never recommend to anyone to watch.
