May's Recommendation: Molly's Game

Aaron Sorkin famous writer behind A Few Good Men, Moneyball and Steve Jobs, comes his first directorial debut, plus he also writes the films as well but I at least add that his resume to this film. Furthermore its also on Netflix as well, so now since we're in this never ending realm of madness, we're we all have stay inside, okay I'm getting tired of explaining our situation anyway so hey it's Molly's Game based on a true life Molly whose who got tired being in Olympian and decided to constructed or own poker empire. Moreover this film became May Recommendation, for which stars Jessica Chastain in her best performance since Zero Dark Thirty, also has Kevin Costner in his biggest upgrade since Draft Day.
The film tells the story of real life Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain) a former Olympian skier who after a bad accident decides to take in adventure to California, there she begins to see a new way to make money by booking actual poker games for movies stars and the wealthiest individuals. With so much success through the years it begins to turn out of hand once she sees the Russian Mob getting in plus being convicted by the Federal Government it, can she be able to sell out people to start a new life or be live through the consequences.
Now I will admit Chastain does have a lot of hit and misses, I mean ever since I watched Miss Sloane I was disappointed in the movie and her performance moreover was disappointed in her comedy work on Saturday Night Live as well, here's a rule of thumb if your a celebrity and hate Donald Trump don't just focus on one guy focus on a bunch of politics, there all terrible human beings anyway, okay now that I got that out of my system. So all that a side, Chastain actually does a great job playing a real life person who actually has some issues with her father, and though granted this movie is predictable and yes it actually has a rise in fall story line for which all real life people have sometimes but to be honest it's actually fascinating to see her go through all this dispense and betrayal and yet be able to create in empire like she did and plus its also not a three hour movie were its nothing but stock brokers doing drugs and banging hookers, sorry had to vent on how much I hate Wolf of Wall Street. Furthermore the film also has Kevin Costner playing the father to Molly Bloom I mean if that's not another great actor acting along with Jessica Chastain than I don't know what its, also these two actually have a great acting scene together where they both share their own emotions moreover showing a father express how much he failed his own kid is a real tender moment, so I got to give Sorkin some bonus points in casting Costner as the father to Chastain because I would look at this movie way differently if he wasn't in the film. For a first time director Aaron Sorkin actually does a great job, even for a man who’s been in writer's chair all those years with some talented directors, directing his stories so now watching him direct and write at the same time is really amazing to watch, so now I hope he starts directing more which is a big if. So in conclusion this film was really great to watch from start to finish along with some great actors who actually checked their ego bags out of the window in order to pull off a entertaining movie to watch on Netflix. So if you still hate the way the new decade is going and trust me we all hate this the way this year is going I would strongly take the time and watch Molly's Game.

Doom: Annihilation

Fan of the previous Doom games; even consider those as one of the best first person shooters after my downfall of Call of Duty. And yet out of no where they've already made another movie to the Doom series, and no it doesn't have the Rock because he's already had a colonoscopy, so no more taking a crap on scripts for him. I mean sure, I can blame myself in wanting to watch this with the realization that movies and video games really don't mix today judging with the fact that most writers, directors and producers do really play video games. But since were living in mad, mad world of having to stay in doors I figured why not watch it on Netflix. Now I got to get this out of my system, this movie felt like it was made for just five cents and they just paid the actors free lunches, moreover the demons looked way to beyond the realm of fraudulent. So let's talk about Doom: Annihilation and why you should not watch this on Netflix.
The movie centers around a group of marines who wake up from cryosleep (apparently the director has an obsession of Alien), and are tasked to head for moon to secure and investigate the happenings on the Moon. There they discover demons have taken over the base (SHOCKER) and the main doctors have discovered teleportation to another world aka Hell and the head Doctor doesn't want to shut it down. Now if a Doctor doesn't want to shut something down you should make that man play Russian roulette, sorry not sorry. So, all and all this just basically turns into a fight to the death to see who will survive in the end.
A side from the filmmakers acquiring some, minor key elements from the game. I still have problems and a lot of has to do with making a good Doom movie then why making a Doom movie, so for starters if I'm being paid to come up with an idea for a possible Doom movie I would just use the same concept id software used in their 2016 game where Doom Guy wakes up from a so called slumber in a disillusioned state where he need to fight off the demon horde where they apparently are robotic for some reason and just go on from there with this all there doing is just referencing all of the Alien and Predator movies out there were its either the man or woman whose the last standing and that is just not how it works anymore I know it good for money purposes but not for those who've played Doom since it was created. Which brings to my other point, why is it so hard to even adapt a video game into a movie, I mean sure games now are becoming more of movies themselves like Uncharted or The Last of Us, but games like Halo or Mortal Kombat or, hell even Street Fighter you can develop your own stories around these characters if you just take the time do some research and for god sake's at least be original too, just because its a video game doesn't mean you get to rehash ideas from other past films. So look deep down if your a fan of the games and have in urge to watch something like this, just stick to games don't waste your time with a movie where they don't care a whole lot of source material just wanting to rehash old movies and try to create something new for once.

Upload

My cold heartless brother told me to get this done. But I said I accidentally shoot myself in the leg with a rock while using the mower,
He looked at me with his cold eyes and said: “Well both your hands work”.
So here I am having just watched Greg Daniels’s new show Upload.
Before we move on Greg Daniels the guy who brought you the Office, Parks and Recreation, and he worked on the Simpsons when it was funny.  So instead of watching 6 hours a day of the history channel, I took the time to watch Upload and it is awesome.  Yes, you heard me it’s not just a Syfy show it’s a murder mystery
it has an interesting take on the afterlife cool dance numbers and if you don’t buy that it’s also funny.
Robbie Amell plays Nathan a computer programmer and a little bit of a man child.
Nathan lives in a world where you can buy your afterlife and upload yourself to the internet.
When he has a car wreck Ingrid convinces him to upload this is where the fun begins.
I know what you’re saying this doesn’t sound like any type of a remake from the 1980s or 90s.
You would be right. It’s also not a comic book that was written by Allan Moore, don’t stop reading just yet.
With the End of the world upon us, we can afford are selfies to take chances on new and exciting things.
Plus, and with good storytelling, its only 30 mins an episode and that’s only a 3-hour run time so there you go.
Ok back on the subject this has a lot of wonderful actors here that i am sure you will see more off
Andy Allo plays Nathans guide or angel Zainab Johnson plays Andy best friend and
she is funny every scene she is in.  But hats off to Robbie Amell who plays a playboy man-baby with a heart of gold, he pulls Nathans charter arc off extremely well. Now I have jumped off the subject for just a few sentences.  I have an 11-year-old nephew and sometimes you get stuck watching kid shows and every now and then you see an actor who breakthrough.  This gives the revelation that Robbie Amell is my favorite Fred Jones in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, so take that Freddie Prinze Jr.
Okay, so to wrap this up I know trying new things is scary but you probably have an amazon prime account so you can survive the end of the world and if you don’t is two-day shipping come on people. Well with this subscription also get some entertainment so add the app on your phone and enjoy it.  Also, send the kids to bed you probably must be around 18.  You don’t want your kid thinking heaven is in the internet. So unlike extraction Upload gets 4 stars or thumbs up.

Jerry Seinfeld: 23 hrs to Kill

Now granted I'm familiar with Jerry Seinfeld and his 90's sitcom, despite the fact that I'm binge  watching on the show because well, I got nothing better to do so I need something to ignore when I'm typing. Though I'll give him complements on his show (even though some moments in his apartment he has a Met's hat then a Yankee's hat in the background, not quite sure if he's a Met's fan as he claim's or a Yankee's fan)  because he does have some great hilarious moments but then he sometimes fall's flat in some of his bits. So now with his latest comedy show out now on Netflix I figured why not check this out. And I'm not going to lie I actually found some of jokes quite funny.
Basically he talks about his hole view on email, texting being married at the age of sixty-five furthermore realizing that he'd rather hang out with married men than single dudes all while telling all the ladies and wives that Men are trying to be nice but not sure how to. Now, this is my first ever review of a comedy special so sue me if I didn't mention any thing he talked about so to be honest, I'm thirty-three years old and witnessing him mention things that are going on in the world like texting and emails I got to say I thought it was funny, and sure there times when you feel that Seinfeld is a bit of a hit and miss and yes he is. But his latest show he actually does a good job, so if your bored moreover loosing your mind like Jack Nicholson always does when he's acting further more wanting to try something new, when it comes to your watching entertainment then I would check out Seinfeld's latest comedy special. Also the man did create in ingenious joke about Gilligan's Island on SNL if you give a man credit for that then there's something wrong with humanity.

Extraction

Tell you what, to everyone planing there movie you need lots of things but number one is making sure you have the script ready to go. Not just one draft, Shakespeare made changes to his plays, and the guy who co-directed 4 marvel movies with is brother could have probably used this advice. So yes I hated this movie really hated this movie.  It's like Someone gave Steven Seagal 65 million to make the movie Half Past Dead but with the good sense not to cast Ja Rule.  Hey, a nice thing I could say about this movie is it had the good sense not to cast Ja Rule. Or is that a bad thing, because I would love to see that movie, was Ja promises thor a kick-ass music festival and steals thors money and leaves him on some island and thor is out for revenge. Ok, that's probably going too far but that movie I just pitched probably makes a better script then Joe Russo train wreck.
In Extraction, Miley Cyrus ex-brother inlaw plays Tyler Rake a guy with a death wish. Unlike the guy in the movie Death Wish we see what made Charles Bronson sad. That's why right here I am going to give you one abe screenwriters some advice show don't tell really making a movie is a visual medium.  We go into Helmsworths being drop into some bad place where he has to rescue a kidnapped son of a gangster.   Every part of this movie from here on out can be seen in any regular action movie these days.  Copying and pasting action secure from other more original movies rather than trying something new is Hollywood these days but still frustrating when you see a lost opportunity like this movie. I will give Extraction this the acting is superb the actors give you compelling characters to watch.  When the movie slows down in some places Helmsworth chews the scenery very well.  Hats off to Rudhraksh Jaiswal a kid with a bright future. David Harbour shows up also and dose some heavy breathing and then you don't see him again. The last shout out is to Saju Rav he plays a hell of a badass than you wish he was in a better movie.
In closing a Shakespeare once said just because you can hit someone with a truck doesn't mean you should. Instead, add something that adds depth to your charters so as the audience we will care about them when something happens to them. Now that was probably not an exact quote by Shakespeare English literature was a long time ago.  But if he was alive today I would like to think he would tell Joe Russo that he was available to write him a much better script.  Or he probably would have better things to do since he is Shakespeare.  Now let give some love to Director Sam Hargrave I understand you might not have the script but you can tell David Harbour to stop with the over the top breathing yes we get it violence is bad.  If the audience cared about that we would be watching the office for the 3rd time. You could also not focus on charters you don't have time to set up. Or build up charters and not deliver a payoff.  So in the end, -4 stars because why not don't see this movie if you're looking for something to do and you have gone through your Netflix subscription you could I don't know maybe stare at a blank wall. That would at least tell the Russo brothers not to leave marvel so soon.
