1917

All those poets and all those people in politics who thought of war, as such a dreadful site to be seen. Yeah, they never set foot on No Man's Land. Long have I waited for Hollywood to make a movie about World War I. And now I can finally say that it was worth the wait. Now before I continue, I should let you all know that if you want to watch any of the other Best Picture nominations DON'T. Well I'll make an exception for Ford v Ferrari but any of the other Oscar nominations, skip them because this is the film that I declare to win best picture at the Oscars. And if that doesn't happen, well my rage has no bounds so I'll let you all do the math. Okay so directed by Sam Mendes along with the collaboration of cinematographer Roger Deakons (famous for films like Fargo, The Shawshank Redemption and Skyfall), brings a war movie unlike any other furthermore a film where I will never look at WWI the wrong way. I'm going on record and saying that this was one of the greatest things I've ever seen this whole year.
Lance Corporals William Schofield and Tom Blake (George Mackay, Dean-Charles Chapman) are tasked with a life and death mission to deliver a message to the 2nd battalion who are about to drive back the German, not knowing that they're walking into a trap. Among them is Blake's older brother. They both realize that this journey will determine who has the courage and the will to survive.
Now after seeing some footage and watching some behind the scenes I personally knew that this was going to be worth seeing, though I just didn't realize how amazing this film was moreover the greatest thing I've ever seen in the movie theater. And a lot of people don't really know how terrible WWI was they were always watching movies and doc's on how terrible World War II was but they never understood the monstrosity that happen in the Great War, and both Mendes and Deakons does a fantastic job bringing that experience to life. A side from the film reminding me a lot of greatness of the Hurt Locker and Birdman, but to be truly honest I don't care, because this film alone restores my faith in movies although I'm still making a note in not over doing it. The fact that Mendes made this film all in one shot, is truly smart thinking on his part, hell even I couldn't spot any of the cuts because I was too busy caring about the two characters that go through hell just to deliver a message. After watching this film yesterday I still can't get over the experience of even having to travel through the war zone just to deliver messages to another division knowing that if you failed it would be a tremendous lost for your fellow brothers. Roger Deakons needs to be acknowledge for his part in this movie because looking at this film on screen is like watching a movie portrait, even my favorite shot is the one of the main characters looking into the burning church and then another solder comes into frame and both are staring at each other until the opposite solder begins to run and shoot at one of the main characters, because that shot alone explains the horrors of World War I in that the only way that war was ever going to end, would be the last man standing. I going to great lengths and say that this was one of the greatest movie experiences I've ever had the chance to witness, moreover putting my foot down that if this movie doesn't win Best Picture than I will come down on Hollywood like the blades of chaos, THE WHIRLING SWORDS OF MY VENGEANCE WILL ECHO THROUGH ALL OF MEDIA LIKE THE GUST OF A THOUSAND EARTHQUAKES. In closing if you haven't seen this great film yet I would use your paycheck and check this film out in the theaters because you'll never have an experience like that in a million years, believe me after seeing this I don't think I can go to the theater anymore, not with all of the upcoming movies that are coming out.

January Movie Recommendation: The Third Man

Lately I've been studying film noir movies, movies that consist mostly on murder, mystery, conspiracy's and people being wrongfully accused of a crime that person didn't commit. Basically, Investigation Discovery on cable or Hulu. Now I've been watching quite a few of these great films and granted they were both excellent in every way possible. Though two of the movies I've enjoyed through my time ones I honestly can't choose which one to recommend so I decided to talk about both films the first one for which I would highly recommend to anyone who’s a big fan of the film noir genre is The Third Man a film produced by London surprisingly which starred Orson Welles and Bernard Lee. Now before we begin I like to point out that you may think there's a third man but there really isn't.
American pulp western writer Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) arrives at post WWII-Vienna being offered a job by his friend Lime (Orson Welles). But all of a sudden Martins is told that his friend is dead and the police don’t have in interest to tell him what happen nor want Holly to get involved. Not listening to everyone around him Martins tries to find out what really happen to his best friend. Though how far will Martins go to find out what really happen to his pal or does he know him at all.

Hands down one of the best visually stunning films I've ever seen, and awe hell I'm just going to say this defiantly one of the top five greatest films of all time. It's one of these films that people do need to check out moreover watch and see that even the simplest stories can achieve greatness. Even I didn't know who Orson Welles was portraying in the film because I though he was going to help out the main protagonist or was he just there to sell the movie posters but once you finally see him I was like "WHAT?" Like hands down one of the biggest and yet greatest surprises I've witness on film since Christian Bale's reveal in the Prestige. Carol Reed the director of the film did a fantastic job as well because in most film noir pictures that I've seen, they don't in essence create a beautiful backdrop or a portrait on screen and Reed did that in an amazing way possible that you can't help but be at awed in those numerous scenes that Carol creates on screen, and having a photography background myself that's even great to see back in the oldies. Probably one of the coolest surprises is seeing Bernard Lee aka M from the sixties and seventies Bond films and that was one of those surprises I was thinking to myself "dude that's M from the Sean Connery years". Now I, a side from Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Searchers or even Taxi Driver being one of the greatest films of all time I would strongly suggest watching The Third Man, because it definitely changed my life in a sense that even simplest stories can do great things and you don't even need big budgets to create some amazing scenes all you got to do is take a camera, have a good eye and create magic that's all you got to do, also this film alone has given me a huge love of film noir, though granted I've seen some on YouTube but this film alone has sealed the deal for me in the love of film noir.

The Gentlemen

With the beginning of a new decade is it possible to have a good movie to come out in the month of January a month were it's always the crème deli crème of terrible movies. Well, surprisingly a good movie has recently come out in the month of January and it's a Guy Ritchie film. For those who aren't familiar with Guy Ritchie, I'll give you a bit of a brief history on this Brit-man's career. Guy Ritchie got his big break directing a small film called Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, for which is a gangster comedy set in England. And he's struck gold with this kind of genre, with films like Snatch and Rocknrolla. But for some reason he thinks he can do something different with an unknown movie when he was married to Madonna, the live action Disney movie Aladdin where Will Smith is blue. Than make a TV adaption to The Man from Uncle (which was meh for my taste). Although Sherlock Holmes was okay, it wasn't up to par with some of his gangster comedies. So with his latest films starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam with Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant, I hope that Ritchie realizes that he should stick to what he's good at, but that's probably not going to happen.
Cannabis Baron, Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), is trying to get out of the business to spend more time with his lovely wife. The problem comes around when a shadowy private investigator (Hugh Grant) starts spying on Pearson, for a big time editor. Moreover a new power begins to pounce on Pearson's business. With the help of is number one Raymond (Charlie Hunnam) Pearson tries to put down the hunters, before all hell breaks loose. For there is only one rule in the jungle when the lion is hungry, he eats.
This definitely was a film I wanted to watch the moment the trailer came out. Though when I first saw it I was surprised Guy Ritchie himself was coming back to the genre he made fun again and that's as far as I'm going to go because I don't want to give so much crap on him making Aladdin because I had fun with this movie. Now back to the film, sure it's basically the same as Ritchie's past films but to be honest they're meant to be fun in a really great way. Especially when it comes to some of the twist and turns as the film went on, because I thought I had this film put together but no it actually surprised me especially when it came to the cast's performance. Matthew McConaughey for example does a great job playing the protagonist of the film who’s a bit of an antihero and more scary underneath and he does a great job at that. Both Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell does pull of great performances as well and they do it, in the best of their abilities. Hugh Grant is also great in this film to and let's not forget this was the same Brit that was in films back in the nineties that were in my eyes a bit meh, so it's kind of nice to see him play the opposite of all his usual roles he's done. So if you’re a fan of gangster comedies like this especially when it's a dark comedy. I would highly spend your money on this film and I promise you'll get your money's worth from it. And trust me I doubt there's going to be any other great movies coming out these next couple of months, but I could be wrong.

Doing Some Good for Humanity

As the Terminator would say I'M BACK. That's right you all thought I faked my own death but guess what I came out of retirement and I'm ready to take on this decade with a bang. Only there's going to be some dramatic changes going on with this blog that I'm updating so don't overreact to much, so I've decided to retire from being a sort of real life movie critic meaning I have stopped going to a certain movies that have recently have come out as of late though yes there may be some movies I might check out but not all of them.  And at least trying to do some good for humanity what really means his I am going to continue to recommend some great movies I've seen in my recent exile each of the month. Though why some of these changes well it's a good thing why I'm going to tell you right now.
Mainly I'm not going to so many movies that are in the theaters is because I got so miserable through the course of the years and slowly began to see that majority of these films I've watch I just didn't like them for numerous reasons and the ones I know were going to suck I just didn't want to watch it at all. I mean holy crap they just came out with a Cat's movie based solely on Andrew Lloyd
Webbers musical. Now if you are a smart human being and seeing that trailer for the first time and the back of your mind is say this movie sucks. YOU LISTEN TO THAT CONSCIOUS. Even look at Disney for example I mean don't get me wrong I thought The Mandalorian was the greatest television show ever created but that's the only compliment you'll ever hear me say to Disney, a side from reliving my childhood with Gargoyles and The Mighty Ducks cartoon also Star Wars 1-6, so that's all of the compliment I can say for Disney +. Now not give Disney so much crap but even some of the live action remakes to the animated classics are not becoming pointless as well. Like, I think it's pointless for a human to take their own kid to see a Disney movie that was based on an animated original classic along with the waste of a freshly made twenty dollar bill when they can just stream the original movie online. Yes, Cinderella was great to see turn live because Lilly James did a great job, but then it wasn't funny with movies like Aladdin and The Lion King come out then the joke becomes less funny to begin with. Now yes I may be shoving a lot of dirt at Disney like Lou Piniella does to an umpire, but a lot of movie studios and celebrities are become too evil with their own money such as Steven Speilberg directing a Oscar winning classic West Side Story. Yeah, so I hope in the near future I remake Schindler's List just to despite him.
Now with this new decade, what I'm planning to do as always is recommend some movies that you can always see on both any live stream or some movies I believe to be worth seeing and hoped that all of you in the end will like them too. And also if I'm lucky I hope all talk about movies I didn't like at all and that everyone else loved for odd reason's and hopefully help you see some of the movies in a different light. And to put in plainly as to why I'm doing this is because I don't want to feel miserable anymore because let me tell you that yes being a movie critic can be a great and fun job to have but it will suck so hard once you cringe through all the terrible movies that come out every week. Now believe me when I say this it's not fun to be a movie critic trust neither me nor even a real one to be honest. So in the immortal words of our President Donald Trump "Let's make this Decade" great again. Peace out.
