Well, after some serious convincing from my own brother I decided to press on and watch the entire movie of Obsession. Like Backrooms this was another film that was made by a first-time director from YouTube but only this time this wasn't in the original idea of sense this was mostly taking the idea out of a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode.
After breaking a mysterious "One Wish Willow" to win the crush's heart, a hopeless romantic gets exactly what he asks for. However, he soon discovers that some desires come at a dark and sinister price.
To be truthfully honest this maybe the first film where I literally gave up and wanted to watch something else, then being convinced to push through, because through the course of the beginning part of the movie I was just so, appalled by the bad acting from the male lead whose supposed to be insecure and don't know how to talk to girls and then we cut to him seeing his cat dying from getting into pills for which what idiot doesn't fix his own glass cabinet? Either way this film was literally turning me off and wanted to give up so, again my brother told me I needed to push through and he was right, the actress who plays the disturbed, possessed, stalker aka Inde Navarrette is literally the best part of the entire movie her presence once she becomes a possessed psycho, is just so unsettling and so, disturbingly terrifying that you can't help but watch this movie from beginning to end and even I was just so, taken aback when she gets all crazy that even I through the course of the movie as well by the end was just thinking to myself "if I get done with this movie I'm going to be a good boy and not get involved with the crazies!" And it's literally the same WTF feeling I had when watching Promising Young Woman where the course of the movie is just so unsettling that you as a male audience member feel terrified and want to run for dear life, furthermore Inde Navarrette does a fantastic job at playing a possessed/stalker that I praise for her to have a successful acting career for futures to come. Now with Navarrette being the best part of the whole movie, everything else was a bit hit or miss at times specifically the two central male characters in the movie, while the male lead is supposed to be of course the insecure type character but the problem is, that we've seen this before and I'm not sure if the writer/director Curry Barker was writing the character as this evil, shy, guy that's literally taking the advantage his crush or just decides to continue on with this relationship with not having the faintest idea of his actions till it's too late or, he's just dumb hell I don't know in all honesty, but if Barker's intention was to make Bear a horrible person, then how could he not know how it was all magic or wanting to get out of it because to me the films logic is just way off the charts in terms of sensible logic, because even I couldn't tell if the character of Bear was supposed to be a manipulative character and that's why if the director is explaining his movie then we have huge problem in ways of the writer/director doing a bad job. As great of a performance Inde Navarrette portrayed in the film, the film's story and logic just doesn't make any sense and sure this film's budget was only 700,000 but it was shot in LA, where everything is expensive and more importantly the story was meh and the male actors were also the worst part of the whole movie. A side from the great female performance this film does deserve credit for showing that anything is possible but at the end of the day I think that if you show this to a group of people who are either feminists or liberals, they will of course praise the movie just like Blade Runner 2049, but if you showed this to people who don't care about any politics and just love movies then they would most certainly ask a ton of questions in what the films purpose. The film is worth watching in terms of Navarrette’s performance, so if you have a Peacock account, I will watch it for the month of October. But personally, I look at this movie as a good one over just something you must experience and lose your mind in terms of what is going on or what would be the best way to make this movie even better.
