Another typical Sunday where they're nothing better to do, and well just tired of the heat as well as work and so, my mom picked the movie again and picked a family film that's also ridiculous and a hundred percent cliche in terms of seeing one underdog story you've obviously seen them all. Although the one thing that most family films would most certainly not have in their typical family film and that's the ever-great Dennis Quaid who’s the king of making these family films compelling and interesting to watch.
To save their cash-strapped orphanage, a guardian and his kids partner with a captain (Dennis Quaid) for a chance to win a lucrative fishing competition.
No question this film is the most ridiculous family film that once watching fifteen minutes of the film you can obviously tell where this film is going to go from beginning to the very end. But then again when you cast Dennis Quaid as the washed up Obi-Wan Kenobi type character, then this film at least has some good potential to be good mainly because Dennis Quaid always does great as the mentor in any film, and the same goes with The Rookie as well as The Express where he rocks it out of the park with sports films and fish competition is technically a sports movie so, then again this film can be considered a sports movie when you think about it. Either way this film is based on a true story and sure there are going to be times when you can't stay true to the source material but you more importantly have to have a star in the film in order for the movie to be released by a major studio, because that's the way it is, but more importantly nobody is going to see this if a brand name is in it and that's mainly as to why Dennis Quaid was cast into the movie. Although granted I would also imagine the Studio's at Netflix went to Quaid and they simply asked "Dennis Quaid, would you like to star in our movie"? and Quaid simply replies "No" and then shuts the door, then they knock the door again and tells him that it's a sports movie and you'll get free booze as well as being a mentor, then Quaid of course says yes at the end of the day, because even Dennis knows that he's great at that. For sure this film is a hundred percent cliche in terms of a family/sports movie, and you'll obviously get a lot of the drama that you'll obviously get those cliche moments of drama as well as comedy and you'll get to know the characters in a cliche fashion, but deep down this film has some, heart at the center and you even get to see D-Day in the movie aka Bruce McGill, for which I wished he drove a motorcycle through all of his films he's in but again can't get what we want, though again this film has some heart where you can relate to these characters from beginning to the end, and let's be frank this film is distributed from Netflix so, what do you expect, and of course in all of Netflix fashion not a whole lot of their movies are great or memorable. By the end of the day this film has some good moments along with a hundred percent heart and that's all what matters in this film. So, if you’re looking for a mildly entertaining, family film with so many family cliche storylines then I would most certainly watch this film on Netflix and only on Netflix.
